Poetry Sunday: Welcome Darkness

Welcome Darkness

Welcome Darkness!

I honor your possibilities.

Nourishing me deeply,

Your abyss shows me the power of the light unfolding.

The flame from one candle, one ray

Illuminates the nightfall within and with out.

Bringing meaning to my life,

To the interconnectedness of the seasons shifting.

The shaded becomes light again

Filling me, balancing on this Solstice day.

Radiating hope into the chasm,

A peaceful reflection on this barren world.

I honor the magic of this frozen season-

Invigorated, chilled, filling my senses, my soul.

Resting, daydreaming, shedding the scree.

Emerging refreshed in the fertile light of the lengthening day.

This poem came to me on the Winter Solstice as I meditated and contemplated the darkness and light, the passing of one season to the next… grateful for winter’s rest, healing and illumination.

Indeed there is something about the frozen season that makes us reflect and recollect. Somehow the light manages to get through.

    • January 7, 2018

I couldn’t agree more Mary….and letting in that light is essential!

It’s all about the balance, and the joy and peace and sense of self we can fine when we embrace the dark with the light.

I already feel the light coming back, and I really agree about embracing the darkness if we can…

    • January 7, 2018

Yes each day has become a bit lighter and that lightens my spirit!

I so agree with your Respect
“I honor the magic of this frozen season-”

to approach each season with respect is to understand the necessity of day and night

    Happy New Year Donna

    much love…

Happy New Year Gillena! I love how you expressed the respect for each season!

  7. January 7, 2018

You found the positives in darkness! A chance for rest, contemplation, and renewal before a new beginning, anticipating the light and warmth ahead!

  8. January 7, 2018

This is beautiful! 🙂 We find the balance in life once we learn to accept the darkness and resist its control over us by clinging onto the light.

  9. January 7, 2018

Again this year, the darkness is welcome.

No one appreciates the seasons more than a gardener. Winter, the time of gestation, seeds waiting underground. A beautiful poem, Donna.

So true Sherry! I love this waiting for a couple of months, but I will get itchy to bloom by March!

Smiling here. And thinking of Art and Garfunkle – specifically ‘Hello darkness my old friend’.
I love the change of seasons, and have a particular fondness for the pared back elegance of autumn and winter. Summer? Not so much.

One of my favorite songs so it may have influenced my poem but not deliberately….but who knows :)…..I too love the ‘pared back elegance of some seasons’

I find darkness to be quite healing in the right moments.

  13. January 7, 2018

you captured the flow of the seasons and the need for light and darkness, which is also within us. Lovely writing and photo. Thank you.

    • January 7, 2018

Thank you Myrna….we do need a balance between the light and dark.

  14. January 7, 2018

Through the darkness we can be reborn in the light of spring, the bear in me wants to hibernate though.

  15. January 7, 2018

An original – thoughtful and thought provoking – concept … beautifully rendered.

  16. January 7, 2018

Like the ” possibilities of darkness”… great thought!

Such, a beautiful message i n this poem, to embrace everything that comes our way, be it light or dark.

  18. January 8, 2018

This poem totally speaks to my soul, and for it also. Thank you!

I feel the spirit of the solstice here. All we need is one candle to start a fire of passion when the time is ripe.

    • January 8, 2018

Yes. And we can each be a candle. Glad you enjoyed the poem.
